Also, you should know that cell phone companies add things on to voicemail messages (like "to page this person press one, otherwise wait for the beep) to charge you more.
When is the last time you paged someone on a phone? Never. Also, note the delay as to when they say "wait for the beep" and the actual beep. The cell folks know that if they can keep you on until 1:01 they can charge you for another minute. And somewhere in there is profit.
